In our commitment to helping our participants
overcome obstacles that have challenged them in the past and
become successful working professionals, we have developed a
multi-part process that includes Skills Assessment, Job Training,
Placement Services and Post-Placement Coaching.
This process includes an assessment of participants ’ skills,
abilities, needs and preferences, strengths, interests, and
aptitudes. Additionally, the evaluation is designed to assess
their readiness for employment. This service is accessible to
participants through referrals by our referral partners and other
community organizations.
The evaluation process tests for such skills as:
- Vocational aptitudes, interests and work values
- Computer knowledge and clerical skills
- Academic levels
- Manual skills and physical capacity
- Motivation and work behavior
After Skills Assessment, participants are trained through a
combination of classroom sessions, hands-on experiences and
internships. In our Portland Street facility and at work sites in
the field, participants are given the opportunity to develop
positive work behaviors and vocational skills that can lead to
successful job placement.
Individuals in this program work in a variety of competitive
training programs including:
- Office support
- Computer training
- Food service
- Janitorial and housekeeping services
- Commercial production
After skills training and internships, individuals who have a
clearly defined professional goal and are placement-ready can
participate in direct placement services. These individuals
receive assistance with their job search from placement
counselors; in addition, they have full access to the CWS career
resource library, job seeking skills workshops and
agency-affiliated job fairs.
The process continues even after our participants have been
successful in their job search thanks to the follow-up services and
on-going support we provide. |
