Community Work Services can point with pride to
any number of program participants who have benefited from both
the help and guidance they’ve received from CWS and from their own
willfulness and determination to create successful lives. We are
delighted to share some of their stories with you.

| Rickey
Perdomo is a true Community Work Services success
story. In spring 2006, he completed five weeks of training
through the CWS Commercial Cleaning Program. With his
enthusiasm and good sense of humor, Rickey demonstrated a
strong willingness to do whatever it takes to find
employment. Following training, he worked with the CWS
placement team to find a job that would meet his interests
and needs. |

Rickey was understandably apprehensive during the job search
process. He faced multiple barriers to mainstream employment
including homelessness, learning challenges and limited
educational attainment. Despite these obstacles, however, he
worked tirelessly with CWS staff and networked with his
friends to contact employers and complete employment
applications.
Rickey’s determination paid off when, on his own, he made a
call to the Mariner’s House in Boston. In August 2006, he had
an interview and was offered a part-time maintenance position.
Since that time, he has shown great resolve and proven himself
an asset to his employer. He attends work each day on time. He
is well liked by his fellow co-workers and supports himself
and his family as independently as possible.
Today, Rickey is still working with CWS through post-placement
follow-up services. He is looking to secure permanent housing
for himself and his family and is enthusiastically engaged in
building his future. |
