At Your Service
At Your Service is a 10-week job-training program that prepares
individuals for careers in the hotel and hospitality industry. The
program uses the START (Skills Tasks and Results Training)
curriculum developed by the American Hotel and Lodging
Association. Graduates receive a certificate of completion and are
eligible for an internationally recognized line-staff credential
once they complete 90 days on the job. Project partners include
the Massachusetts Lodging Association Education Foundation, the
Boston Private Industry Council, Travelers Aid Family Services,
The Workplace, Job Net and more than 25 Boston area hotels.
Project Team
Project Team assists individuals who are homeless or at–risk of
homelessness by helping them access food stamp benefits, pursue
job training and enter the workforce. Individuals enrolled in
Project Team may enroll in any of CWS’ job training programs or
receive assistance in accessing educational services or job
training programs offered by other providers. Project Team is
funded by the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance
and administered by The Mayor’s Office of Jobs and Community
Services. Additional partners include Project Impact and The
Workplace, one of Boston’s one-stop career centers.
Project Support
As part of CWS’ extensive case management service model, Project
Support provides a minimum of 12-month follow-up services to
ensure that CWS graduates retain employment. The program offers a
three-tiered post-placement structure that gradually moves
participants from intensive 1:1 case management to a peer
mentorship model in which the longer-term employed graduates
mentor those who are new to their jobs. Project Support was
implemented in 2005 with support provided by The Boston
Foundation.
Bulfinch Triangle Streetscape Improvement Project
This exciting program was initiated to revitalize and beautify
Boston’s Bulfinch Triangle area. In collaboration with the
Downtown North Association and the Boston Redevelopment Authority,
CWS program participants perform year-round maintenance of the
neighborhood’s sidewalks and watering of seasonal plantings
during spring and summer months. The program is an extension of
CWS’ commercial cleaning program, which provides instruction in
skills related to janitorial, housekeeping and maintenance work.
Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Internship Program
CWS and Spaulding Rehabilitation have worked together in a variety
of capacities for many years. Spaulding has hired many of our
graduates, utilized the work center for mailing services and hired
our janitorial services for daily cleaning and to help them
prepare for site visits. In 2005, we added an internship program
which provides individuals with exposure to careers in the health
care industry. Internship placements include stock positions,
kitchen utility, data entry and, cafeteria operations. This
program is an extension of the CWS Food Service program, which
provides training for careers in the food service and restaurant
industry.
HomeWork Project
The HomeWork Project integrates employment services and housing
for chronically homeless individuals with significant disabilities
such as mental health and substance abuse issues. CWS provides
case management, transitional employment, customized placement and
intensive support. Funded by the US Department of Labor and US
Department of Housing and Urban Development, HomeWork is
administered by the Boston Private Industry Council. Additional
partners include Job Net, ABCD, Project Place, and New England
Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Massachusetts Department of Mental
Health, Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission and Bay Cove Human
Services.
