Community Work Services can point with pride to
any number of program participants who have benefited from both
the help and guidance they’ve received from CWS and from their own
willfulness and determination to create successful lives. We are
delighted to share some of their stories with you.

| John Davis
is a resident of the Greater Boston area who came to
Community Work Services for training through a referral
from the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission. Known
for always having a smile on his face, he had often
assisted his neighbors by running errands and performing
other household tasks, but had never held a formal job. |

In the summer and fall of 2006, John performed several months of
training in the Commercial Cleaning Program at CWS. He developed a
wide range of in-demand cleaning skills during this period.
Working with his supervisors and other program staff, he also
sharpened his professional presentation, reliability and attention
to detail. Throughout his time in training, John proved that he
could be counted on by his supervisor to be on time and be ready
for whatever the day’s work entailed. This included cleaning the
neighborhood sidewalks each day as part of the Bulfinch
Streetscapes Project.
In September 2006, John found gainful employment as a dining room
attendant at a popular local restaurant. His job involves many
responsibilities including clearing tables, refilling the
disposables and caring for the beverage station.
With more than six months on the job, John Davis is an exceptional
success. He has proven that with the right support and a positive
attitude, everyone has an opportunity to get their first job. |
